What exactly does “personal branding” mean? If you googled it, then you will probably come up with the Wikipedia definition which says, “personal branding is the conscious and intentional effort to create and influence public perception of an individual by positioning them as an authority in their industry, elevating their credibility, and differentiating them from the competition, to ultimately advance their career, increase their circle of influence, and have a larger impact.”

So, to paraphrase and break it into simple English, personal branding simply means “how you promote yourself. It is a combination of your skills, experience, and the personality that you want the world to see.”

An example of a powerful personal brand that comes to mind is Elon Musk. Earlier this month, CNN reported that the value of Bitcoin nosedived by 12% after Elon Musk tweeted that Tesla would not accept the cryptocurrency as payment for its electric vehicles. This is just an example of how powerful a personal brand can be.

This explains why a lot of corporate organizations spend a huge part of their budget on building their brand. As an individual, you can also build your own personal brand that personify the values you stand for.
